Press tour in Torgiano to celebrate Lungarotti’s double anniversary!
A double anniversary for Lungarotti: on 23rd April 2024 the historic Umbrian winery celebrated with a group of journalists the 50th anniversary of the Torgiano Wine Museum and the 60th anniversary of Rubesco Riserva Vigna Monticchio, its flagship wine. Two intense days of vertical tastings of Vigna Monticchio wines, visits to the Torgiano Wine Museum, described by the New York Times as “the most beautiful in Italy”, but above all moments of celebration. In fact, the 23rd of April is the night of San Giorgio in Torgiano, a celebration with ancient origins, characterised by traditional bonfires in the vineyards. A very evocative ceremony that testifies to the deep bond between the local community and viticulture, between the sacred and the profane. It is no coincidence that this date was chosen 50 years ago for the inauguration of the Wine Museum. On the evening of 23 April, the Compagnia dei Tavernieri e Vignaioli di Torgiano lit a huge bonfire in the cellar square, amidst music, dancing and many toasts with Lungarotti wines. The next day, the group of journalists set off to discover some of the finest examples of Perugia’s artistic craftsmanship, such as the stained-glass windows of the Moretti Caselli studio or the fabrics of the Atelier Giuditta Brozzetti museum, housed in an old church, one of the last hand-weaving workshops in Italy, where it is possible to admire ancient looms dating from the 18th century. Two workshops that have survived thanks to the stubborn will of two young women who decided to carry on the family tradition.
